Mission

Personal statement on teaching, mentoring, and stewardship.

My mission is to encourage students to pursue excellence in their playing by learning concepts of stewardship, discipline, competition, and practice. Artistic excellence in trombone performance is predicated on the above precepts being observed from a Christian perspective.
Here are the 10 Goals I have for the teacher-student relationship:

  • Model an orchestral yet nimble tone and convey this to students

  • Foster excellent pedagogy through a proven course study in the following:
  1. Fundamentals
  2. Technical Studies
  3. Advanced Musical Etude
  4. Comprehensive Excerpt study and Solo work
  5. Section Playing

  • Cultivate competitive maturity through orchestral mock auditions, festival participation, and participation in professional auditions

  • Encourage exploration, implementation, and ownership of daily practice routines and macro study plans

  • Continue to perform personally at the highest level, while maintaining a balanced practice and performance schedule

  • Be a model of creative endeavors in musical and developmental projects

  • Mentor students towards career and musical goals

  • Guide students towards larger spiritual and life goals

  • Provide a professional network; artistic resource, and future opportunity for students upon graduation

  • Become friends and colleagues.
