Baylor Trombones at ATW
Tentative Schedule updated March 11th
Baylor Trombones and friends, I will have the full itinerary on this page with all hotel, travel, and concert information. The link to the ATW schedule and website is below. All performances and competitions will be back in Brucker Hall this year.
The expectation I have is that all starred *events (in blue) we will attend as a studio. Make plans to attend the festival in full.
To Do:
- Confirm you seat and check in to your flight Tuesday AM or ASAP. Confirm group boarding. Download American Airlines App and have your pass in your Apple Wallet (QR code for boarding)
- Checking one small to medium bag, Carry on your trombone and one very small carry on.
- Packing - mutes, music, black concert attire including black shoes and sox. I am taking one small suitcase, double case, and my leather brief case with my iPad and headphones.
- Confirm your hotel rooming assingments:
- Room 1 - Owner and BP
- Room 2 - Grace and Rebekah
- Room 3 - Santi, Gannon, Josh, Tayton
- Room 4 - Noah, Matthew, Demitri, Wyatt
- Photo ID - always have this with you to access Fort Meyer
- Per Diem Credit Cards are in Phillips possession - I will hand them to you at DFW after TSA
- The cards will be activated, so there is no action the students need to take as far as activating them. They will only be active during their days of travel (Mar 12-16) to use for meals (per diem of up to $68 per day, minus breakfast on the mornings that they are at the hotel if free breakfast is included in the price of the room). The cards can only be used at restaurants. They will be declined if they try to use them elsewhere.
No single transaction over $68 will be approved, so please be sure they know that limitation.
You will need to turn in the cards after the trip. Give them to me Sunday when we land.

We may have Steve Wilson join us if he is available for our run through at the USMB and to coach us on our performance.
Mock choir performance followed by Q&A time.
From Karl Johnson - bass trombone USMB -"If you want a couple of people to perform for me, we could certainly also do a shorter masterclass format. What seems to work well is when students come prepared with questions. The questions can be about anything music related, postgraduate realities, auditions, military life, military pay structures, psychological strategies for dealing with pressures of music, or anything else. The key is that the students drive the conversation with the freedom to take it any direction that is helpful to them.
After our time is up, we can certainly do a short tour of the grounds over at the old Barracks. Because of the remodel, there’s not a lot to see in the new annex with the exception of taking a tour of our library. While it’s not necessarily a breathtaking room, it houses some interesting artifacts, including the famous Sousa baton."
12:15npm - Group Lunch at Hawk N Dove in SE Washington may or may not be part of your per-diem. I frequented this place once a week. This place is a political fixture in DC and has every campaign sticker and memorabilia. Food is great and this is a historic bar. So many conversations with politicians, lobbyist and has the most insightful and intelligent bar tenders. www.hawkndovebardc.com/
